I’M FULLY VAXXED - NOW WHAT?

With a steady decline in COVID-19 cases following the distribution of vaccines, the CDC has officially decided to lift some restrictions for those who have been fully vaccinated. Here’s a rundown of what you can expect once you’ve been fully immunized.

First things first: what does it mean to be fully vaccinated? Well, generally people are considered fully vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or

  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

Keep in mind that even if you’ve gotten the shot, you still need to allow 2 weeks for the antibodies to develop before you’re in the clear.

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. The CDC has announced that once you’ve been fully vaccinated,

  • You are not required to wear a mask or stay 6 feet apart in most areas, except where it is mandated by the federal/state law (ex: schools, government buildings, public transportation)

  • You can meet up with friends and family indoors - without masks or social distancing - if everyone is fully vaccinated

  • You can eat indoors at restaurants; though not perfectly safe, eating indoors is safer now than it has been all year long

  • You can safely travel domestically. While this is not a zero-risk activity, the risks are quite a bit lower now that people are getting vaccinated!

  • You do not need to get tested for COVID-19 before or after domestic travel, or self-quarantine after your return

    • Keep in mind that if traveling internationally, you are still required to get tested before your departure and strongly encouraged to be tested after you return

  • You are encouraged to resume most activities that were previously stopped due to the pandemic

*Note: some businesses may still enforce masks for customers, regardless of the current vaccine situation.

The CDC is still working to discover how effective the vaccines are against variants of the coronavirus. In the meantime, it’s important that we follow the guidelines and watch out for any potential symptoms of COVID-19. If you haven’t already, I strongly urge you to get vaccinated - not for yourself, but for the common good. After over a year of isolation and quarantine, we’re finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Restrictions are being lifted, and we certainly don’t want to see our progress be reversed. Let’s not stop here, Timberwolves. Stay masked, or get vaxxed!
